This medium vase is glazed on the exterior with a glaze inspired by traditional Japanese Tenmoku glazes. The deep black and brown tones are created using wild iron that I collect in southern Utah and process for use in my glaze recipes. The interior features one of my original white glazes, made without added colorants, creating a smooth, clean finish.
The vase is wheel-thrown on an electric wheel using a 50/50 blend of stoneware and porcelain. After trimming, it is set aside to dry slowly for up to ten weeks. Once fully dry, it is bisque fired to 1728°F, then glazed and glaze-fired to 2232°F.
Dimensions: 6 inches tall, 7-inch belly, 4.5-inch rim (approximate).
